Toledo Pickleball Winter Play Options

Hi Everyone,

What a summer it has been! I hope you have enjoyed playing at our new courts as much as I have. We are starting to get a taste of colder weather and shorter evenings which means we will be heading indoors very soon to satisfy our Pickleball addiction.  I am excited to share that we will have several options of play this winter depending on what your budget is. We have two options that will require membership and two that are drop-in.

The Rossford Rec will be partnering with us this year in a more substantial way than last year:

Play times will be Tues & Thursday 12-3, Friday evenings 6-9pm and Sundays 2-5pm.  You will need to join the Rossford Rec as a member to participate in the organized play times. Our session will run from Oct 15 through March 15 (6 months) and there will be 4 courts available for play.  The membership is outlined very clearly on the Rec website and you will pay 2x the Quarterly fee in order to play all 6 months.  Here is a link to the Rec’s website as well as the membership form you will need to fill out –  When you are on the Rec home page, look on the left hand side and you will see a section marked “Membership Options”.  As a member of the Rec you will be able to utilize the entire facility including the weight rooms, cardio rooms etc.

Second option will be the West Toledo YMCA.  To participate in this you will need to be a Max Member or Associate Member of the YMCA.  Associate Membership will only qualify you to participate in the classes at the YMCA and does not allow the use of the facility in any other capacity. The annual associate fee this year has more than doubled and will be $90, additionally you will also be charged the session fee.  In addition to the increase in the Associate Fee, please note that the Sunday play time has been shortened by an hour.  Fall II Session Registration starts Oct 8, and the 8-week session begins October 24 and runs through December 12, 2012.  Here are the days and times:

Tuesday/Thursday 8:45-noon (intermediate) – Session Cost $10 Max Members, $20 Associate Members

Wednesday 8:45-noon (beginner) – Cost $10 Max Member, $20 Associate Member

Sunday 1-3pm (advanced) – Cost $10 Max Member, $20 Associate Member

Please note, all of the YMCA days and times are dependent upon numbers of participants. If the participation is low, the class will be canceled.  I will not be participating at the West YMCA this year so if any of you will be signing up to play there, we really need a point person that can help with net setup and welcoming new players.  Please contact me as soon as possible if you are planning on playing at the YMCA and would like to help in that capacity.

Outside of the Rossford Rec and West YMCA, we also have two drop-in play options; Tam O’Shanter and Laurel Hill Tennis Club.

Tam O’Shanter has agreed to give us three courts for play on Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 15 until Nov. 28, (with the exception of Nov. 21) from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  and a drop-in fee of $6.
However, since we cannot guarantee that we will fill these courts, we have decided that Tom Lindsley will be the person that communicates our needs to Tamo management.  So, if you want to play at Tamo on a Monday or Wednesday, you must first find 3 people to play with, and then email Tom at least 24 hours in advance of the Wednesday session and 48 hours before the Monday session (preferably on the Friday preceding the session) so he can figure out how many nets need to be set up, etc.  In other words, this will offer us the opportunity to organize our own games and play for two hours with no breaks–much like tennis courts are reserved at tennis clubs.  Obviously, this is a whole new system of play for us, and we don’t know how many of you will opt for it.  But we’re trying to work with all facilities that have gymnasiums because we don’t know which indoor courts will be available to us in the future. Please email Tom Lindsley at
Laurel Hill Tennis Club (2222 Cass Road Toledo, OH 43614), starting October 15th and running through March, will be offering drop-in play on Tuesday and Wednesday from 12:30-3:00pm for a fee of $5.  Throughout the winter season they may have a few changes based on tennis activities at the club. I will be sending out posts to update everyone of the necessary changes. Diane Kerin is the contact at the club and is a great gal who loves the game. They do have a few extra paddles for beginners and they will also have balls for sale.

I realize this is a great amount of information in one post.  For a good summary view please click this link to view the calendar page on my blog  After you see the calendar, click on the “week” view (right upper corner of the calendar), arrow forward starting October 24th and you will see all the opportunities to play listed. If you click on any event you will see the details where, when and pricing etc.  I will keep the outdoor schedule posted on the calendar until it is no longer an option. Please don’t hesitate to contact me or Connie with any questions that you might have.

Let’s hope the weather holds out so that we can continue to play outdoors as long as possible!

See you on the courts!
